The Story of
De Milan glie n' è doma vun
In the artistic heart of Brera, Ristorante Stendhal is born. The intuition of Italo Manca, one of the last Milanese dandies, turns a love for the city into a place that expresses its most authentic spirit. Here, Milanese cuisine takes center stage in an environment that recalls Milan’s literary cafés and cultural salons, restoring an elegance steeped in history and tradition.
With the arrival of the Forti family, Milan remains at the core of the vision. First Enrico and then Marcello preserve the restaurant’s original soul, strengthening its bond with the city and its cuisine. Marcello brings a contemporary perspective while keeping a deep respect for Milanese culture: a balance between culinary memory and innovation that makes Stendhal a benchmark for anyone wishing to savor Milan in all its refinement.
Milanese identity opens a conversation with Rome, in the splendid setting of Galleria Alberto Sordi. Trattoria Stendhal Rome was born as a tribute to two great Italian cities: on one side, Milanese cuisine with its signature dishes; on the other, Roman flavors an expression of conviviality and passion. It’s a dialogue between capitals, with Milan always at the center, recognizable in its style, elegance, and carefully curated gastronomic offering.
On May 5, 2025, Bistrot Stendhal CityLife opens a new chapter that brings Milanese style to the city’s most contemporary district. Amid the futuristic architecture of the Three Towers, the bistro safeguards the Stendhal essence, with an offering that continues to celebrate Milan: its cuisine, its flavors, and its ability to renew itself without losing its identity. A concrete testament to how the brand remains faithful to its city while opening up to ever more international horizons.
Having brought Milanese gastronomy to the Capital, a mere year later the journey of Stendhal Restaurants crosses national borders to arrive in Canton Ticino. With Casa Stendhal in Lugano, set within the secluded backdrop of Collina d’Oro, the great Lombard tradition finds its first Swiss sanctuary. It is here that the essence of Brera and its signature rituals encounter a cosmopolitan ambiance, giving rise to an exquisite retreat that seamlessly weaves Milanese heritage with the serenity of the Swiss landscape.
